Commercial Deputy Assessor
EFFECTIVE DATE: December 5, 2025
REPORTS TO: Assessor, Chief Deputy Assessor
SUPERVISES: NONE
FUNCTION: The Commercial Deputy Assessor is responsible for assisting in the valuation, assessment and administration of commercial and industrial properties within the Township. This role supports tax assessment operations by ensuring accurate property records, conducting field reviews, analyzing market data, and providing exceptional service to property owners, businesses and government partners.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and to work independently
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant experience in property assessment, valuation, or commercial real estate is preferred
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Community involvement and/or knowledge of construction practices is a plus
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Assessor, which include, but are not limited to, the following list:
- Assisting in the valuation of commercial and industrial properties
- Conducting field inspections and reviewing permits/sales
- Analyzing income, cost, and market data
- Maintaining accurate property record cards in GIS/CAMA systems
- Supporting Board of Review appeals and evidence preparation
- Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect in all interactions with the public, property owners, and coworkers
- Assist with special projects or additional assignments as directed by the Assessor
COMPENSATION: The position offers a competitive hourly rate of $38-$40, based on experience and qualifications. The Township provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental coverage, IMRF pension, vacation time, sick leave, and paid holidays. This position is full-time, 30 hours per week.
