Bonnie Barrington

Bonnie proudly serves as the Ela Township Assessor and brings a lifelong dedication to both community and public service. A resident of Ela Township for over 37 years, she currently lives in Hawthorn Woods with four of her five children.

Bonnie is a proud Navy veteran, having served as a Hospital Corpsman from 2001 to 2006. Her passion for service continued beyond the military, guiding her to a career in public office. Her journey in the Assessor’s Office began early—working after school and during summers as a teenager—which laid the foundation for her career in property assessment. She officially joined the Ela Township Assessor’s Office in 2005 and earned her Chief Illinois Assessment Officer (CIAO) designation in 2007. She also maintains an active Illinois real estate license.

Following the passing of her husband, John, Bonnie was appointed as an alternate member of the Lake County Board of Review. This role reignited her deep passion for public service, ultimately leading to her election as Ela Township Assessor in April 2025.

Bonnie is deeply involved in the community. She is a member of the Lake Zurich American Legion and attends The Chapel in Lake Zurich. In her free time, she volunteers with a dog rescue and is a dedicated advocate for veterans’ mental health.

She is the proud mother of five children—Tommy (27), Nick (23), Emma (17), Anna (15), and Olivia (14)—and shares her home with three beloved dogs: Willow, Minnie, and Rosie.
